Senators yesterday evening took the government to task over the Karobangi evictions that many Kenyans have termed as ‘insensitive’ and ‘inhuman’.

Several families were evicted from the contested piece of land and Kenyans have been asking why the government would move to evict poor families in a middle of a pandemic crisis and a curfew to prevent the spread of the diseases.

The Senate Minority Whip, Senator Mutula Kilonzo Jr. of Makueni, had this to say:

Another Senator backed the debate saying this is the time to show some humanity even if the government had to reclaim its land

Why this story Matters: The government has imposed a 7pm-5am curfew in Nairobi to fight the spread of COVID-19 pandemic. Many are therefore questioning the move to render more than 5000 people homeless when people are being asked to stay at home.
